17th Mar Esther 9:1-19 War and Peace.

Lent thought for the day

The Bible records some violent times in history. The Jews in the Persian Empire had narrowly escaped a genocide, and in response they armed themselves and massacred hundreds of their enemies. Thousands would die before there was peace. It’s easy to forget it, but we live in one of the most peaceful societies in human history.

The people in the Bible didn’t have that luxury so often resorted to violence to survive.

Take a moment to recognise how peaceful our lives are and pray for the millions around the world who don’t yet enjoy that privilege.

Today’s thought-for-the-day is from David
