When we think of God as Judge we usually picture a courtroom judge, weighing an individual’s soul by their good and bad deeds. But Psalm 82 shows us a different kind of judge.
In it God judges the ‘gods’ of the world – (i.e. Kings, Nations, Empires) based on whether they have done their duty to take care of the poor and vulnerable.
He is like a divine ombudsman, holding the powerful to account.
