8th Mar Nehemiah 9: 1-25 Know where you came from

Lent thought for the day

To establish the new nation, Ezra held a national event to renew their covenant with God. He led the people in a history lesson, to remind the people of where they came from.

It can be easy to forget our roots. For example, did you know that in the 17th century Scots inspired by passages like Nehemiah 9, wrote their own National Covenant? They thought that just as the Israelites had a covenant relationship with God, Scots could have that too.

It is events like these that gave us the church we know today, so it’s good to know our history.
