Vacancy: Summer Intern (Part time 8hrs/week, temporary 9weeks) – closing date Tuesday 6th July

NOTE: THE CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THIS POST IS TUESDAY 6TH JULY SUMMER INTERN POSITION Salary:   £11 per hour  Status: 2 hours per day 4 days a week Fixed Term: 9 weeks from - 12th July - 10th September Closing date: Sunday 4th July 2021 (midnight) Location: Granton, Edinburgh An exciting opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual who will work with existing volunteers in developing the prayer garden as a connection point with the community.  Granton Parish Church is in the heart of the community, with many groups and organisations meeting weekly. Throughout the Covid pandemic we have sought ways to continue connecting with our community even if buildings were closed. During Lent we created a simple prayer garden in the grounds where people could reflect on scripture passages, enjoy moments of spiritual reflection, and connect with God in the city. Feedback being overwhelmingly positive it was decided to continue the garden as people’s spiritual needs do not end when Lent ends. Informal enquiries may be made to: Rev. Norman Smith, tel: 0131 551 2159 info@granton.org.uk. We expect successful candidates to be invited to interview week beginning 12 July 2021. Note that there is a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) for the person to be a Christian. A significant part of the role involves speaking to people passing by or having a coffee around areas of faith. DOWNLOAD JOB DESCRIPTION (pdf) Powered byEMF Online Payment Form ...

Walking Together – Sat 19th June 2pm

All of us need to take time out of everyday life to pause and reflect. For hundreds of years Christians have spent time in nature as a way to pray and to reconnected with God. And we are no different. Join us on the 19th June to take an hour to walk outdoors and spend that time pausing and reflecting. We will send out some prayer cards to help to think and focus. Unlike in previous years where we have all gathered in one central location, this year we will be taking our own routes, walking in our local area in households or small groups. This is of course due to restrictions, but the advantage is that anyone, anywhere, can join in. At 2pm all of us will set off at the exact same time for an hour of reflection. We may not be physically together, but we will be together in spirit and prayer. Then at 5pm on the same day we will have a catch up Zoom Call where we can talk about our walks and any experiences we had. Please take pictures so we can share all our different walks. https://zoom.us/j/98212078010?pwd=cGM0akh6SFhxcUNJL0tVcHkwcFdIQT09 If you can't make the scheduled walk, we hope you can catch up later on the Zoom call ...

ACORN Group — A new way to grow our Church

Have you ever wanted to invite a friend to Church, but found it too intimidating? Do you want to be more open with your faith with others, but don't really know where to begin? If so you're not alone, all of us at some time have struggled to talk about the big issues with people in our lives. Reaching out to others isn't always easy, but we know it's an important part for growing our Church. Every person sitting in Church is there because someone, somewhere invited them to join in. That's why we are starting a group to help encourage one another in speaking about our faith. We are basing it around one of the latest ideas for encouraging mission, a technique called ACORN. ACORN stands for: ASK: Ask God, is there anyone in our lives we could be reaching out to CALL: Listen for what God might be saying OBEY: Respond to the call; that could be inviting them to Church, asking them out for a catch up, or just asking 'how are you doing?' REPORT: Share with others about how it went: did it go well? How did you feel? NOTICE: Reflect on what God has done in and through you Our ACORN Group will meet monthly to chat about how God is prompting us, and to support one another as we try to follow God's call. It's a group not for super-Christians, but for ordinary folks who want to help one another as we share our faith with our friends, colleagues, neighbours and families. We hope to run at least one group on Zoom so anyone, anywhere can access. If you are interested in being involved, please drop me a message at dmoodie@churchofscotland.org.uk If you'd like to hear more about ACORN from the man behind the idea, ...

Vaccination Thanksgiving

The Moderator of the General Assembly has written to congregations Dear All, At the closing of the General Assembly, I had the opportunity to launch a joint initiative between the Church of Scotland and Christian Aid, encouraging members to give a financial gift in thanksgiving once they had received full vaccination for Covid-19. It has been much on my mind as to how fortunate I have been to have received my two vaccinations; but had I been living elsewhere in the world, the story would have been quite different. In my year as Moderator, the plan is to visit Lebanon and Malawi. Just taking these two places as examples, the percentage of population vaccinated with only one vaccination is 4% and 0.8% respectively. That is against more than 60% of our population in UK. The World Health Organisation have said no-one is protected until all are protected, therefore we are urging the UK Government to do all that it can to ensure COVID-19 vaccines are available throughout the world. Alongside this we must also seek to limit the impact of the virus on health, livelihoods, and personal safety, for those in the poorest parts of the world. By supporting Christian Aid in their efforts to provide basics such as soap, water, and food, we can ensure that vulnerable communities stay safer as they wait for vaccination. In this very tangible way, as we seek global justice, here is a practical opportunity to give real expression in 2021 to loving our global neighbours. I sincerely hope that you will join with me and together we will respond generously, as a mark of our gratitude for what we have received. To give a gift, please click on the following link: https://giving.give-star.com/online/christian-aid/cos-just-vaccine-rollout I would also like to share the following prayer from Christian ...

Meeting online for prayer – Thursday 10th June at 7pm

Hello everyone, This Thursday at 7pm we are inviting people to meet and spend some time in prayer together. In these uncertain days spending time together praying is a really good thing to do. If you have someone or something on your mind then come along and together we will pray. If you are the kind of person who doesn’t mind praying in front of others or the kind of person who likes quietly listening, both are ok. No one will be forced to pray out loud though everyone will be encouraged to pray. For prep, please have a candle and a few matches beside you. Hope to see you there! Norm.
