Fresh Start are delighted to announce the first phase of the development of their community Hub with the opening of Fresh Start’s Local Pantry on Monday 29th June. The Pantry will give local people the opportunity to do their weekly shop for a fraction of the prices they would pay in the supermarket when they become a member of their exciting new food club!
For a membership fee of £3.50 per week, shoppers can pick up to 10 items from the Pantry. These items range from cereals, pasta, sauces, crisps, juice and tinned goods – all the basics you need on a weekly basis. There will also be cleaning and toiletries available. Fresh items do not fall into the 10 items to be picked and these can be added as ‘free’ extras!
Where Can I Find The Pantry?
As part of the ongoing Hub developments, the Fresh Start Local Pantry will be located at 26-28 Ferry Road Drive, EH4 4BR, next door to the warehouse. Fresh Start have been busying away to turn the premises around and transform it!
The Pantry will be open Mondays and Tuesdays from 29th June from 9am – 4pm.
As we are still in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Fresh Start respectfully request that when visiting the Pantry, the below guidelines are followed:
1. Observe social distancing in store and if queuing outside, markers are provided indoors and outdoors.
2. No more than 2 customers will be permitted in the Pantry at one time.
3. Wear a mask or gloves if possible and use the hand sanitizer provided.
4. Pay by card if possible.

Our Managing Director, Biddy Kelly, speaks of how the Fresh Start Pantry fits in with the ongoing work of Fresh Start and how it is helping us build our vision for the future. “The development of the community pantry – a membership model that allows people to get their weekly shopping for £3.50 a week saving them approx. £700 per year – allows people to access cheap nutritional food at low cost and build their social networks, brings them in to contact with people regularly. It allows them to be free of the constant isolation that financial poverty brings – which in turn allows them to start thinking, planning and looking up – where do I want to go – what can I do and allows people to focus their energy elsewhere without worrying about where their next meal will come from.”
