The first half of Mary’s prayer is one of personal praise for her specific situation. She rejoices in what God has done for her, recognising God as her Saviour and realising that future generations will see how blessed she was. But Mary is quite clear – God owes her nothing, but she has received everything from him. this passage illustrates how God treats us as well. He doesn’t owe us anything, but he gives us everything we have.
