Please feel free to join us at any of our groups. This list is of activities that are on regularly—other activities are advertised elsewhere on the website – usually under Latest News.

It’s always worth checking if a group is meeting before turning up – especially if you have far to travel.

Each week The Boys’ Brigade works with thousands of young people, many of whom have no other connection with the Church. Today we are working with over 60,000 children & young people in over 1500 companies (groups) in the UK & Republic of Ireland every week.

The Boys’ Brigade provides a balanced programme of activities for children and young people from 5 to 18 years old. These resources have been developed to help volunteer youth leaders work in a relevant and creative way. We hope through these programmes they will be able to make a positive contribution to a young person’s life and be able to share their faith.

Our work is split into age groups as follows:

Where have we come from?

The Boys’ Brigade has been around for over 125 years and in 2008 we celebrated our 125th Anniversary. Our Founder Sir William Alexander Smith, included in our Object “The Promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness” and that has not been changed.

What has changed is how we go about promoting that object. We recognise that the influences surrounding our young people are not always helpful and that too many lose control at great cost to themselves, their families and the community. The answer is to catch the energy and enthusiasm of youth and to channel it purposefully.

Our Object

The Object of The Boys’ Brigade is:

“The advancement of Christ’s kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.”

Our aim is to provide a budget meal – at present £3.00 for 3 courses including tea and coffee) and importantly to create a friendly atmosphere for people to meet and chat on a regular basis.

It is open to everyone and we especially welcome those who live alone, who would appreciate having a meal made for them and companionship. We also manage to make a profit which we gladly hand over to the church to help with ever-increasing costs.

Thanksgiving and Memorial Service @ In the church (all welcome)
Jan 6 @ 10:30 – 11:45

candles in churchEach year we gather  to give thank and remember loved ones who have passed away. This year our service will be on the 1st Sunday of the year at the usual time of 10.30am.

This is a quiet contemplative service with opportunity for reflection.

This is a very poignant service where there will be an opportunity to give thanks for the life of those who have passed on and who were of particular significance to us. We in the church recognise that though our loved ones may have moved on from this life we will always hold them dearly in our hearts. It is only right we have occasions where we can formally remember them.

As well as this the service will be an opportunity to give thanks for other occasions in our lives. This could be anything from a new birth, a new house, a new job through to recovery of health or giving thanks for new friends. There is much in our lives it is good to thank God for.

The service will take place on Sunday 6th January 2019 at 10.30am in the Church.

Note that there will be no provision for children at this service
