On Sunday we said a sad but fond farewell to John Orioha. John has been in Edinburgh finishing off his studies at New College, and now has to return to his home in Nigeria. John immersed himself in our fellowship here at Granton during his stay, and we are sad to see him leave.
In an address to the congregation on Sunday, He spoke eloquently and passionately about what has motivated and inspired him in his journey in his Christian faith.
It was also his 26th birthday and the congregation gathered after the service to mark the occasion, joined by some of his friends from Nigeria and Malawi. Linda Young, our Session Clerk, presented him with a Quaich to remind him of the friendships he made here at Granton.
Joining him to cut the birthday cake was Louise who also celebrated her birthday yesterday – at exactly half John’s age, she became a teenager!
John sang for the congregation, then Derek Henderson, preaching on Sunday, prayed for John with the congregation ‘
“Lord God, we pray especially at this time for John as he returns home to Nigeria in the next few days. We give thanks for his walk with you and for his time with us; for his contribution to our fellowship here and to our worship. We pray for his safe travel homewards. We pray for his family and friends with whom he will be reunited and ask that you will continue to guide him and bless him in all that he does in serving you in the days and years ahead.
This we ask in Jesus name,
