It is great when we find it is what you are being called to in, and it is affirmed by other people. We can spend so much of our lives trying to figure out what it is we are supposed to do with our lives, what our calling is.
One thing that the passage from Acts points to is the role of the Holy Spirit in finding out what our calling is. The Holy Spirit guides us throughout our lives and helps us sort out what our calling is. Now, we all have one main calling to be Christ’s disciples in this world, and love other people and God’s creation. We then are called to live out this calling in different ways.
Now, following our calling isn’t always easy, but as the passage shows, we don’t go on this journey alone. Peter is imprisoned, and has heard of the killing of James.
While Peter was imprisoned, there is a community at a church praying for him. Then the Holy Spirit comes and leads him out of prison. Peter was facing a trying time and he trusted in the Lord, and in the calling he has as a disciple of Christ sharing the word of God.
Life isn’t always easy, and we experience trials during our lives. What is important to remember is that we are not alone. Just as there were people praying for Peter, there are people supporting you. The Lord never abandons you, and is there is support for you. We also need to be willing to ask for help when we are struggling in following our calling.
“Peter went out and followed him; he did not realise that what was happening with the angel’s help was real.”That are a couple of ways you can trust in your calling, and the guidance and support of the Holy Spirit and your communities?
