“For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind.” Isaiah 65:17
There is something so wonderful about getting something new. I remember getting a new toy and being so excited to explore all the amazing things. There was so much to play with and it worked perfectly. Then the excitement started to wear off. It wasn’t new. I discovered all the things there were to discover. I wanted to toss it and get a new toy.
In our passage from Isaiah, the LORD says that he is about to create something new. What was before will not even be remembered. What the LORD is creating is a place where there will be no more weeping. There will be love, care, peace, and joy. This is all wonderful, and is a future for us to live into.
While this is something we would all like to have happen, it is important we don’t treat our earth like an old toy which we are no longer interested in. We were given this earth to look after. The LORD says in the first verse of this passage he is about to create these things. These things are coming, but they are not hear yet. When we are waiting for something, we still pay attention and care for what is around us, and this is what we are called to do.
We can see the promise of new life and new creation, and we still need to remember where we are right now. We have this amazing earth with amazing people resources to care for, enjoy, look after. Let us be inspired by what is to come and give thanks for what we have in front of us.
What is something which had seemed old and forgotten which you can bring new appreciation to?
