Thought for The Day – Sunday 13th March

Lent-thought-for-the-day

I am the Light of the World

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12

Back in the days, before GPS, or even accurate sea maps, sailors would use the light of the stars as a way to navigate and find their way across the seas. The Vikings discovered America and Polynesian navigators explored the Pacific, all using starlight. The most famous guiding star is Polaris, the North Star. It always shows where North is. As long as you can see it, you can orientate yourself and find your way back to shore.

Jesus promises to be our light, to be a beacon that guides us to where we need to go. Like a guiding star Jesus stays the same, and we can use that to orient ourselves. Whenever we are feeling lost in life we can turn to Jesus and use his light to find the guidance we need to take the right path.

Prayer: Jesus our Lodestar, help us to walk in the light and live in the truth. Whenever we feel lost or in darkness, shine your light on us and guide us home.

Action: The next time you travel think about what is guiding you: road signs, memory, sat-nav? Use that time to reflect on how God is guiding you through life.
