My name is Fergus Cook and I am writing to you to introduce myself as the new Interim Moderator for Granton Parish Church.
I am presently the minister of Blackhall St Columba’s Parish Church and have worked with Norman, your previous minister, as we tried to find ways to collaborate in the old ‘Cluster Grouping’.
In due course, I hope to meet and get to know as many people as I can in the Parish. However, initially I’ve been asked to write a few words so you can get to know a little more about your new Interim Moderator.
I can tell you that I come originally from Glasgow and am married to Shona, who hails originally from Edinburgh. We have three daughters, the youngest of whom has just turned 21. Whilst our two eldest daughters work on the south side of Glasgow, my youngest daughter is at college here in Edinburgh.
By way of background, I served as a police officer in Strathclyde Police before becoming a part of Police Scotland. Having retired from the police, after 30 years service, I began my training to become a Church of Scotland minister. Blackhall St Columba’s is my first charge and I was ordained and inducted the day before the first coronavirus lockdown!
For relaxation I enjoy reading, films and the theatre. I also enjoy whisky – both collecting and consuming! I have carried out various talks on the subject to whisky clubs and like-minded groups on various whisky related topics. I have now started the ‘Blackhall Drambusters’ who are a whisky appreciation society.
I look forward to working with you, as we all try to find our way through the Presbytery Planning process, and seek God’s will, for how we serve him in our community in Edinburgh.
