Our prayers today turn to the prophets and the peacemakers.
It’s not easy being a prophet. Usually in the Old Testament they were calling the church back to God after it had moved away. You can guess that this did not make them popular because no one likes being told they are outside God’s will. Yet the church needs prophets. It is the prophets who hold us to account and who make sure we are not losing that which makes us distinctive; God.
Alongside them we also need peacemakers. People who sow peace in their wake and who have been gifted by God with wisdom. They help us to see when we are being stubborn and pig-headed.
For the church to fullfil it’s calling both prophets and peacemakers are needed. Pray for the prophets, that they would have courage even when what they are saying is hard. Pray for peacemakers that they would be listened to when emotions run high and we don’t want to listen.
God of past, present and future, we seek direction
for the life of our Church and for ourselves,
and remember that all concerns and anxieties
should be placed within Your hand.
Where we have heard Your voice
may we step into the future that appears
with all the uncertainties and unknowns
to be explored.
Keep our eyes open to places of need,
and our ears open to the call
to new ways of being Your people.
