Remembering Stewart

stewart greig

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Stewart Greig on Saturday 3rd October 2020.

Stewart was in his 90th year and for many decades of those years was an Elder here at Granton, having been ordained to Eldership in 1961. He was in fact part of a team of Elders from back in the day, known affectionately now as the “Polit-bureau”!

Stewart was to be found in all the church’s nooks and crannies! Here he’s hanging the projection screen from the attic space in 2005.

For many many years Stewart, as part of the Property Team, nursed the church’s boiler and could be found in the boiler room morning and night, summer and winter, coaxing what was an ailing piece of engineering – it was already second hand when it was installed in 1937! It is a testament to Stewart that it lasted right up until it was replaced only last year.

If ever the phrase ‘pillar of the Church’ could be applied to someone, then that someone was Stewart. He was strong in faith and duty, and we shall miss him, but also be glad that he has gone home to God.
