Christmas is a time of giving. According to the usual plethora of Christmas adverts there are so many things we all need if only we want to be happy. Yet there is a large body of scientific evidence that the act of giving actually makes you happier than receiving. Paul the Apostle knew this when he wrote to the elders in Ephesus as follows.
I have shown you in all things that by working hard in this way we must help the weak, remembering the words that the Lord Jesus himself said, ‘There is more happiness in giving than in receiving.’ ” Act 20:35
Rather than waking each day in advent and going to open a little box to get some chocolate, Granton Parish Church is encouraging everyone to undertake at least one Act of Random Kindness each day. Who knows the difference you will make helping others? Who knows the ripples of kindness that might come from your one act? Each day, every day, for Advent in 2019 we will all try to act out a Reverse Advent Calendar.
Feel free to use the ARK cards and add your card to those on the ARK Notice Board. We do this not to boast but to encourage each other to further acts of kindness.
Here’s to making Advent 2019 the most impactful Advent our church has ever experienced!
