With Spring now here it’s a great time to revisit the Spiritual Refresher journey that we did in 2019.
Pop along to Cramond on your daily exercise and follow the trail from your mobile phone.
Series 1 - yourself
To get the best out of these cards walk at your own pace. You don’t have to do them in order. You don’t have to finish. It is not a race!
For the Son of Man came to find and restore the lost.”
Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.
Greet one another with the kiss of Christian love. May peace be with all of you who belong to Christ.
You will show me the path that leads to life; your presence fills me with joy and brings me pleasure forever.
What I mean is that both you and I will be helped at the same time, you by my faith and I by yours.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest.
Everything was created through him; nothing—not one thing!— came into being without him.
“Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or—worse!—stolen by burglars.
“For Christ himself has brought us peace by making Jews and Gentiles one people. With his own body he broke down the wall that separated them and kept them enemies.
God looked over everything he had made; it was so good, so very good! It was evening, it was morning— Day Six.
“A David psalm. God’s glory is on tour in the skies, God-craft on exhibit across the horizon.
Be glad, earth and sky! Roar, sea, and every creature in you; be glad, fields, and everything in you! The trees in the woods will shout for joy when the LORD comes to rule the earth. He will rule the peoples of the world with justice and fairness.
“If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you.
Whoever goes to the LORD for safety, whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty, can say to him, “You are my defender and protector. You are my God; in you I trust.”
“Look at me. I stand at the door. I knock. If you hear me call and open the door, I’ll come right in and sit down to supper with you.
Series 2 - other people
This set of cards is designed to help you look at different parts of your Christian faith. Take your time over each one. Pray as you think!
For this series, find a quiet place to contemplate these questions.
Who has been a help to you in your wider family either now or before? Spend some time thanking God for bringing them into your life.
“Oh, thank GOD—he’s so good! His love never runs out.”
We all experience times where we really need to feel God with us. Who do you know that is going through this at the moment?
Be determined and confident. Do not be afraid of them. Your God, the LORD himself, will be with you. He will not fail you or abandon you.”
Big decision should be taken carefully. For Christians that means asking God. What do you want God to help you decide?
“Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.
Barnabas is known as an encourager. Who have you helped and who has helped you?
And so encourage one another and help one another, just as you are now doing.
A cynical person one said, ‘friends come and go but enemies accumulate’
Who do you need to forgive?
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, if my brother keeps on sinning against me, how many times do I have to forgive him? Seven times?” “No, not seven times,” answered Jesus, “but seventy times seven,
Chances come and chances go. Often we don’t see them until they have gone. Spend some time thinking and praying about any chances you might me missing?
And now, why wait any longer? Get up and be baptized and have your sins washed away by praying to him.’
Being busy is not the same as having an impact. Jesus told us to change the world. Where can you most impact the world through your church?
In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.
God knows the good bits and the bad bits of our lives. Is there anything you should be telling him that you haven’t?
But if we confess our sins to God, he will keep his promise and do what is right: he will forgive us our sins and purify us from all our wrongdoing.
“Everyone has hopes, it is part of being human. You may have brought your concerns to God, have you brought your hopes?
Let your hope keep you joyful, be patient in your troubles, and pray at all times.
No man is an island as the saying goes. Who has made an impact on your life over the years?
Keep company with the wise and you will become wise. If you make friends with stupid people, you will be ruined.
Not everyone remembers the good times yet most never forget the bad. Is there anything today you should be letting go?
Of course, my friends, I really do not think that I have already won it; the one thing I do, however, is to forget what is behind me and do my best to reach what is ahead.
Is there a situation that needs a new point of view? Bring it to God.
What we see now is like a dim image in a mirror; then we shall see face-to-face. What I know now is only partial; then it will be complete—as complete as God’s knowledge of me.
Why keep a good thing to yourself? Who could you talk to about your hope in Jesus? (hint: check your contacts)
But have reverence for Christ in your hearts, and honor him as Lord. Be ready at all times to answer anyone who asks you to explain the hope you have in you,
Bringing our burdens to God is actually quite easy. We all like a good moan. The hard part is leaving them there!
Leave your troubles with the LORD, and he will defend you; he never lets honest people be defeated.
How’s things? Same old, same old. Sometimes life never changes. What would you choose to do different?
The righteous call to the LORD, and he listens; he rescues them from all their troubles.
