Steve began his career with St Mirren and followed Sir Alex Ferguson to Aberdeen where he spent six seasons. He moved to Hibs and in 1985–86 season he was the top goalscorer in Scotland. He also played for Motherwell before moving to Irish football with Portadown where he won the league and cup.

Steve is still closely involved in football and is Radio Forth’s main analyst.
