Thy Kingdom Come
Since May 2016, God has grown ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ from a dream to a global prayer movement. Last year Christians from 172 countries took part in praying ‘Come Holy Spirit’, so that friends and family, neighbours and colleagues might come to know Jesus and his love and peace. (You can watch the 2 ½ minute story of Thy Kingdom Come www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k3pIwVqisA.)
This year, in the midst of the Covid 19 Crisis, a number of the churches in the North West of Edinburgh have expressed an interest in joining up to pray ‘Thy Kingdom Come’. This is how we have covered the prayer slots so far…
Day | AM (7am-12pm) | PM (12-11pm) |
Saturday 23rd May | Granton Parish Church
Sunday 24th May | Holy Cross
Monday 25th May | Granton Baptist
Tuesday 26th May | Davidson’s Mains Parish Church | Davidson’s Mains Parish Church |
Wednesday 27th May | Old Kirk and Muirhouse
Thursday 28th May | Drylaw
Friday 29th May | St. Stephen’s Comely Bank
Saturday 30th May | Cramond Kirk
Pentecost Sunday 31st May | 7pm praying prayers together |
There are a number of ways we can join in. Here are four suggestions…
- For the 11 days between Ascension (21st May) and Pentecost (31st May) in our prayer times we can spend some time praying Holy Spirit Come…and see who and what God lays on our heart to pray for.
- We could go on the Thy Kingdom Come website and download one of the 11 day prayer guides. This is something we can do on our own or as a household. https://www.thykingdomcome.global/resources/key-resources-2020
- We can join in on our home church’s designated prayer slot which is Sat 23rd May
- We are encouraging people to spend some time to pray for God’s Kingdom.
- Together, in our own homes, we can all read the following reading, reflection and prayer at the start and the end of the 11 days of prayer. (See below)
How good it is to be able to join together in praying, “Jesus – Thy Kingdom Come.”
THY KINGDOM COME: PENTECOST SUNDAY 31st MAY
READ, REFLECT & PRAY 7pm
BIBLE: Acts Chapter 2
Reflection: Pentecost by Malcom Guite
Today we feel the wind beneath our wings
Today the hidden fountain flows and plays
Today the church draws breath at last and sings
As every flame becomes a Tongue of praise.
This is the feast of fire, air, and water
Poured out and breathed and kindled into earth.
The earth herself awakens to her maker
And is translated out of death to birth.
The right words come today in their right order
And every word spells freedom and release
Today the gospel crosses every border
All tongues are loosened by the Prince of Peace
Today the lost are found in His translation.
Whose mother-tongue is Love, in every nation.
Pray together: O God, make speed to save us. O Lord, make haste to help us. Send your Holy Spirit upon us and clothe your people with power from on high.
As our evening prayer rises before you, O God, so may your mercy come down upon us to cleanse our hearts and set us free to sing your praise now and for ever.
Almighty God, your ascended Son has sent us into the world to preach the good news of your kingdom: inspire us with your Spirit and fill our hearts with the fire of your love, that all who hear your Word may be drawn to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord
O King enthroned on high, Comforter and Spirit of truth, giver of life, come and dwell with us, cleanse us from every stain and save our souls.
Come, O Spirit of God, and make within us your dwelling place and home. May our darkness be dispelled by your light, and our troubles calmed by your peace; may all evil be redeemed by your love, all pain transformed through the suffering of Christ, and all dying glorified in his risen life.
