Look, your house is left to you desolate. For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
Matthew 23: 38 – 39
This passage is the end of Jesus mourning of his rejection by Jerusalem. His heart was broken by being turned away in the centre of the Jewish faith, by leaving the Temple that was the heart of Judaism. But it is also a prophecy. The people didn’t realise what they were doing. Less than 40 years later, the city of Jerusalem was destroyed and the Temple torn down. The House of God, and the houses of the people, were left desolate, and the temple was never rebuilt. In turning away Jesus, the people had turned away God’s presence, and they would not see it again until they freely welcomed Jesus.
Prayer: Lord, we never really know the end results of our actions. I pray for your wisdom, and your grace, because I have neither. Please guide me in the decisions I make and the things that I do, that they may fulfil your will, not mine. Amen
Action; when you’re about to speak or act impulsively, pause and pray God will guide your speech and actions.
