“Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
Matthew 24: 30 – 31
This is part of the image that Jesus is painting of his Second Coming. We don’t know what this will look like. There is no description here on the sign of what this will be, but what matters is that Christ will come again. When he comes again, people will be gathered together again with him. In this passage, Jesus says that his elect will be gathered. While this might cause some people to get hung up on whether or not they are elect, there is an invitation for us here. We are invited to live our lives as faithful Christians, and continue to follow the teachings of Jesus. We do not know what the future will look like, but we can control how we live our lives in the present.
Prayer: God of all times and places, you have promised that Christ will come again. While we wait for Jesus to come again, you remind us to faithfully live our lives, and to love each other as you have called us to. May we heed this call, and continue to support and nourish our communities. Amen
Action: Live faithfully now in the present
