Thought for The Day – Sunday 18th April

“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

Matthew 25: 14 – 18

What do you do with what you have been given? Something I strive to do is to not waste what I have and what I have been given. In this passage, the servants have been given gold, two of them put it to good use by doubling what they have been given. We have been given gifts by God to use, and to use to share about who God is, and share God’s love with the world. Then we have the other man who received the one bag, and didn’t do anything to share it or grow and expand it. Our call as disciples is to use the gifts what we have been given, and to share those gifts with the world. Don’t bury them in the grand, grow and expand them so that the mission of God spreads to every corner of the world.

Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for giving us gifts to share with our communities and the rest of world. Help us to use them to the best of our abilities and not hide them away. Amen.

Action: Be brave and share your gifts with the rest of world.
