Thought for The Day – Monday 21st June

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

Matthew 28: 5 – 6

Would these women ever be aware that they were the first to be given the momentous news that Jesus Christ had risen from the dead? Two thousand years has passed from that moment, which has become central to the belief of Christians of all denominations.

The women would have seen the place where Christ’s body, removed from the cross, had been laid. They were told not to be afraid, but how could they have been able to understand the enormity of what they were witnessing? The angel gave them, what was to become, the cornerstone of our Christian faith, the news that Christ is risen.

The women believed the angel and we will go on to hear how they passed on the news to the Disciples. We must be like those women and not be afraid to pass on to all who will listen, the good news that He is risen.

Prayer: Loving God, you gave us your son to be a living hope for all that believe in You. Thank you for that moment when you sent the angel to meet the women at the empty tomb.

Action: Don’t be afraid to pass on the good news.
