Thought for The Day – Tuesday 27th April

matthew post

Sorry this one was a little late coming out,

“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

Matthew 25: 44 – 46

An interesting feature of Christian Faith is we are never off the clock. How we act on Sunday or when engaged in church activity should be no different to how we act at home or when we think no one is looking. Neither should social status be an issue or motivation by what is in it for us. If we believe that every single human being is made in the image of God then we should treat each person exactly the same. Irrespective of race, status, wealth, beauty, power, or any other measure. Jesus’ hearers who lived in a caste like society struggled with this thinking, yet he was unwilling to compromise. If you read the last line above you will see he pulls no punches.

Prayer: Father we are all your children. Even though this world ascribes different values to different people, we are all the same. We are all recipients of your generosity, love and grace. Thank you for that.

Action: How will being reminded of this change the way you treat people today?
