Thought for The Day – Saturday 1st May

Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me.

Matthew 26: 10 – 11

If you look hard enough you can always find a reason to criticise. Yes, the perfume could have been sold, yes that money would be used to help the poor. Yet that doesn’t take away from the woman’s sacrifice because there was generosity and love in the act itself. Jesus rebukes what is essentially small, minded pettiness coming from the disciples. Even though something is not done that way you want it to be or done outside your control, can you appreciate it for what it is? Can you find beauty around you even when you are annoyed?

Prayer: Father, I freely admit I like to control the world around me. I freely also admit I really don’t control the world! Your will be done in earth as it is in heaven. Help me to appreciate beauty in even the smallest act especially those outside my control.

Action: Take a breath before you criticise anyone today.
