Thought for the Day – Friday 13th November

Jesus left there and went along the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down. Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them. The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.

Matthew 15: 29 – 31

How often have we heard or perhaps even used the phrase “Do you expect me to work miracles?”  As mere mortals we of course cannot replicate the miracles that Jesus performed.  This however is not the point of these verses.  They serve as a wonderful reminder that we as Christians are charged to follow Jesus example and show care, compassion, love and understanding to those we encounter every day of our lives be they friend or stranger.  By leading by example we may not be able to work miracles but we can make a difference in the lives of those we share God’s earth with.  This is a great gift which is freely given to us.  Cherish this precious gift and put it to good use.

Prayer: Loving God, Help us to lead by your example.  Enable us to use the gifts you have given us to benefit the lives of others and in doing so allow us to put our faith in to action.  We know that we cannot perform miracles but with your help and through your teachings help us to make a positive difference in the lives of the people we encounter each day. Amen

Action: Try to lead by example. Reflect on the impact your actions have on others. Remember, a little kindness goes a long way.
