Thought for The Day – Wednesday 6th January

After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.

Matthew 17: 1 – 2

Todays reading is considered one of the most important in the entire New Testament. Whilst on earth Jesus carried out many miracles but in terms of his looks he was pretty normal. Isaiah the prophet goes so far as to describe him as “He had no dignity or beauty to make us take notice of him. There was nothing attractive about him, nothing that would draw us to him.” This is the only glimpse we see of who Jesus really was, of the innate power he held in check.

We think of Jesus as meek and mild, however, that is not true! He is the Son of God who is God! He is Emmanuel, God with us! He is the Alpha and the Omega! You get the picture? Never underestimate who Jesus is.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I have some idea but no real understanding of who Jesus is. I know that when I see you in glory I will be amazed at who you truly are.

Action: Where do you see God at work in the ordinary today?
