Lent Thought for the day – #TFTD – 28th March

TFTD scene (5)

“Son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say, ‘Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord… you, mountains of Israel, will produce branches and fruit for my people Israel, for they will soon come home. I am concerned for you and will look on you with favour (Eze 36:1,8-9)

This is a really unique passage, God is speaking to the mountains. Not about the mountains, to the mountains! God is communicating directly with the natural world, expressing care and love for all of creation. God doesn’t just love us, he loves the entire world, and he his faithfulness extends to every created thing.

The natural world has an incredible power to heal and restore us. There is often nothing more therapeutic than a walk outdoors. But as members of a species that cause so much damage, we have a responsibility to heal and restore the natural world in what ways we can. Nature isn’t just resources for us to consume, it’s God’s good creation that we are tasked with caring for, even in times of crisis.

Prayer: Lord thank you for your wonderous creation, that sustains me every day. Forgive me for the actions I have taken that cause harm to the natural world and guide me as I seek to honour and preserve your good creation.

Action: Take a moment to appreciate to something natural. That may be out in the garden, a house plant, or even watching a nature documentary on TV. Appreciate how amazing God’s creation is.
