“Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
Matthew 10 : 40 – 42
Through this lockdown one of the things that has become much harder is hospitality. We are used to being about to invite folks round for dinner, have them stay the night or treat them to a coffee. But for the last few months that hasn’t been an option like it normally has.
It’s a shame because hospitality is such a big part of our faith. When we show practical care for others it’s a way for us to act out God’s love and show others how value them. Thankfully we’ve seen creative new ways to be hospitable: Zoom Quizzes, weekly calls, neighbours sharing and outdoor meetups have all allowed people to show hospitality in socially distanced ways.
Our homes may not be open as they usually are but there are still many ways to fulfil our call to be hospital and extend our help to those who need it.
Prayer: Welcoming God, we thank you that your door is always open and we are welcome in your house. Help us to care for others in new and creative ways, so that we can still reflect your hospitality out into the world.
Action: How can you show hospitality today?
