Thought for the Day – Wednesday 2nd September

matthew post

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11 : 28

The rest that God is talking about in this verse is not rest from your daily work or being physically exhausted when you have worked hard. It is the peace that God gives to everyone who follows Him regardless of circumstances.

Our souls need time for everything to stop, so that we can care for them properly just as our bodies cannot function without rest. If we do not take this time we risk burnout. Burnout can happen when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands. God will give us rest so we can carry on with life.

Dear God,

Thank you that you promise to give the worried, the hurried, the pressured, and stressed out – rest and peace for our souls. Thank you that you already know all that concerns us, and you care. Thank you for your reminder that we don’t have to carry it all on our own. Forgive us for not taking the time to rest, or not coming to you first with our needs and burdens.  Thank you for refreshing our souls and leading us forward with hope.

Will we slow down and recharge our souls today?

Will we be someone who takes notice of others who seem weary and burdened too?
