Given the new world we are living in, we have been so much more accustomed to communicating through video calls using the likes of Zoom. For some, these calls have stirred quite the debate on the quality of bookshelves people have in their backgrounds.
Some examples can only be described as ‘higgledy-piggledy’ at best, whereas others have adopted a much more organised layout based on size, colour-coding, topic or author. Whilst it’s the latter which I aspire to, I probably would practice the former had I any sort of meaningful collection of literature…
The attention-to-detail and the effort to perfect every aspect are most likely habits beyond me, so credit to anyone who has them!
Jesus reminds us here that regardless of how small or insignificant something may seem; nothing escapes God’s attention and care.
Not linked to these passages from Matthew but the story of President JFK taking a tour of NASA comes to mind. The President approached a janitor holding a broom and asked what he was doing, only for the man to respond that he ‘was helping put a man on the moon’.
As with these passages from the Bible, what can initially seem insignificant is often part of a bigger picture.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for these words in Matthew – and the reminder of your love and that nothing escapes your care and attention.
Action: Take today to focus on the small details which you might have been putting off and set time aside to correct these.
