“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
Matthew 10 : 32 – 33
One of the membership vows in the Church of Scotland says , Do you promise, depending on the grace of God to confess Christ before men, to serve Him in your daily work, and to walk in His ways all the days of your life? It ties directly into this verse where Jesus informs us of his role as intercessor for us before God, yet the catch is for him to intercede for us we need to acknowledge him here on earth. If we give Jesus no place in our lives then Jesus in turn will respect that and not speak to God about us. This is difficult teaching but clear from the Bible.
This is why faith is not something we can impose on other people. Parents might make their children read the bible, they might make the kids come to church; ultimately though each one of us must choose to believe in Jesus for ourselves.
Prayer: Father, in your wisdom you have given us free will. It saddens me that so many people choose not to give Jesus a place in their lives. I pray and hope that more people will turn to Jesus and find in him the solace and peace that I have found. Even though they may not pray to you, I pray for them, that your Spirit will work in their lives.
Action: Recognise each of us are no better than anyone else. The only difference is that Christians give Jesus a place in their lives. Ask yourself how you can help other people also give Jesus a place in their lives?
