Thought for the Day – Monday 10th August

matthew post

“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.

Matthew 10 : 16

Imagine being a disciple hearing this from Jesus, who you have been following and learning from over these years. You are being put out into this world on your own, and as they have seen and experienced, it isn’t always a friendly place. Now, while this might seem scary, there is a recognition from Jesus that they are ready to go out into the world.

When we look at the world today, we see areas where Christianity is not well known and those we are spreading the message of the Gospel are struggling and are being persecuted. The thing to remember is that what is being spread is good news. It is a message that this world needs to hear, and so we need to be willing to put ourselves in risky situations in order to spread the good news of the gospel.

So, as we go out and spread the good news of the love of Jesus, we need to be crafty like a snake, and at the same time, base your actions in the ways you have been taught by scripture. We have to constantly look to see the best way to spread the message of Christ, and so we do need to be crafty, but we can’t compromise our core as disciples of Christ.

Prayer: Loving God, we give you thanks that you have called and equipped us to go out into this world and share the good news of your gospel. Help is to step out in boldness and share your message with this world. Help us to trust in you and the gifts you have given us to be your disciples. Amen

Action: Who can you invite to worship or share the love of God with in your life?
