The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now something greater than Jonah is here. The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here.
Matthew 12 : 41 – 42
As a child and a teenager, I would hear this one statement from older people I would be speaking with about an experience. The statement would be something to the sound of how much better I have it compared to what they had at the same point in their lives. It made me appreciate what I have, and not take it for granted.
Both the men of Nineveh and the Queen of the South remind me of that older person who reminds us how much better we have it. They had prophets come, only for a little while, and they fixed their ways. The audience who is hearing this, and us today, have had Jesus, disciples, miracles, and other things to help keep us following the way Jesus has taught us to follow. We have had all of this to help us, and we still mess up, make mistakes, and yet, we are forgiven, loved, and part of the body of Christ.
Prayer: Loving God, we give you thanks for the people you have given us to teach us, lead us, and guide us as we seek to live the lives you have called us to live. Help us to follow what we are being taught and shown. May we not take for granted the many different ways you have shown us grace, forgiveness, and love. Amen.
Action: Be grateful for the love and forgiveness you have been given.
