Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.
Matthew 13 : 5 – 6
Root is an important thing as it gives you strength to stand when the wind blows. From it nourishment comes to keep you growing in both good and bad times. Without a root we soon wither and die.
Jesus knew this well because he had a mix of followers, some dedicated their lives to following him whilst others blew hot and cold depending on how entertaining he was in the miracle department. When things got tough they were the first ones to leave.
What happens to your faith when things are difficult? Do you find it a comfort and strength or is it the first thing to be diched? What happens to it will show you how rooted you are in Jesus. Every single one of us needs to work daily on being rooted in Jesus because when the times comes that we need to draw strength from that root, then it’s too late to do the investing. How are you deepening/strengthening the root of your faith today?
Prayer: God, help my roots to grow deep and strong. Help me to embed in my daily routine practices that will help that root to grow. Help my root not to wither and die in the drought or the heat.
Action: Practice your faith, then practice it again.
