Winter Care Shelters – we’re looking for volunteers

Winter Care Shelter in Edinburgh

Granton Parish Church has again volunteered our catering talents in support of the Bethany Winter Care Shelter.

The Care Shelter provides rough sleepers with a place to go for the night where they can find shelter, a hot meal and a warm place to sleep over the winter, from November until April.

We have been allocated two dates over this winter with the first being Sunday 21st January, followed by Sunday 11th February.  We have now started planning for these dates and we are looking for volunteers to make up a Team of up to 7 people each night to help with cooking and serving a filling two-course meal between 6pm and 11pm and driving the minibus to pick up the service users from the city centre between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.

We would like to involve as many people as possible in this project and if you would like to know more, or volunteer your time and skills, please speak to either of us (contact details below).  Even if you feel unable to help with the Care Shelter nights, we would welcome your prayers in support of this project.

As well as providing the volunteers, we provide the food for the evening meal and the breakfast.  To help fund this, there is a ‘Bethany Box’ at the rear of the Church, between the exit doors, where donations can be left after each Sunday Service so that we can buy the necessary food for the meals.  There will also be retiral offerings at the Christingle, Watchnight and Christmas Day Services.  All money raised from donations will be put towards the catering of the Care Shelter nights by Granton Parish Church.
