Rev Norman Smith
The worship group are tasked with designing and delivering the worship life of the congregation. This ranges from choosing topics and themes for services to choosing hymns to putting together services such as Thanksgiving and Memorial and Remembrance. Beyond Sundays it considers how the worshipping life of the congregation can be nurtured through the week whether our people are in the church or at their work or at home. Courses such as Alpha fall under its remit. Any and all aspects of our worship life is looked at by this group.
Recently we have been meeting to consider Christmas. This means making sure we sing a wide range of well-loved carols as well as considering how we keep the Christmas story fresh when people have heard it many times. For 2014 we decided on a variation of X-Factor, recognising that the real star of Christmas is Jesus.
Beyond Christmas we are planning a ‘Winter Warmer’ service in January which will be a chance to celebrate together the warmth of the church community at the height of our cold winter. Then it will be the most important season of the church; Easter.
When you read this article, when you think about worship, we want you to think beyond Sunday because we offer our whole selves to God. That means our worship should include our work our home and our leisure. There is nowhere we cannot worship God.
Whether you are on the bus or walking down Boswall Parkway consider what it means to worship God.
